Solanki Dynasty |

It was known in ancient times as Ashapalli or Ashaval. In the eleventh century the
Solanki King Karandev I, ruler of Anhilwad Patan (Patan), waged a war against the
Bhil king of ASHAPALLI and won the battle and build the city After his victory he
established a city called KARNAVATI on the western side of ASHAPALLI on the banks
Sabarmati at the site of modern AHMEDABAD. Solanki rule lasted until the thirteenth
century.

• Goddess Kochrabadevi’s Tempal
|
|
|
|
It is believed that the place where King Karndev got omen from Bhairavidevi he built
a tempal,On the south side of current kochrab during construction of Sanskar Kendra
remains of the Tempal like construction were found during digging but one can not
be sure about the location of the old tempal.

• Goddess Jayantidevi’s Temple
|
|
|
|
The place where King Karndev won the battle he build a Temple of goddess Jayantidevi,which
can not be found now.
|

• Karneshwar Mahadev
|
|
|
|
1. If it is not Karnmukteshwar Mahadev than it can not be found there
is no surety that both are same.
|
|
2. But The grand Temple with garden was built during Solanki Era which
still exist.
|
|
3. Unfortunately the Garden was used to construct a textile mill which
used to be identified as Bagicha Mill.
|
|
4. Although the SHIVALAY is no more as grand as it used to be before
500 or say 800 years ago. The wells, Dharmshala’s and Garden around
he main temple are vanished during all these years.

5. The Karnmukteshwar temple is still a prominent religious place in AHMEDABAD.

• Karnsagar lake
|
|
1. Its is believed that the lake has been constructed between the borders
of the then existing Ashapalli and newly established KARNAVATI
|
|
2. But it can not be located in Karnavati or present Ahemdabad
|
|
3. We can see a well constructed lake on the south side of the Karnmukteshwar
Mahadev which looks very similar to lake Saratvatsar which is in
Prabhas Patan(capital of Gujarat during solanki Era)

4. The current name with which we identified this lake is Kankariya and the
steps of the lake are also reflects Hindu style construction and same to same as
the saratvatsar lake
|
|
5. It has 34 equal length sides each 190 feets long and diameter of
2153 square yards and total area of 76 acres.

6. Its is known that king Kuttubuddin renovated the lake and also built
a palace on the island(it is also believed that there was a temple which
was destroyed during this construction)because of that it was
known as hoj e kutub
