Origin of name & Sultanate rule
• There is a legend associated with AHMEDABAD. At the beginning of the fifteenth century, an independent sultanate ruled by the Muslim Muzaffarid dynasty was established in Gujarat.
• Sultan Ahmed Shah, while camping on the banks of the Sabarmati river, saw a hare chasing a dog, remember (jab kutte pe sassa aaya ahmedshah ne AHMEDABAD basaya). The sultan was impressed by this and asked his spiritual adviser for explanation. The sage pointed out unique characteristics in the land which nurtured such rare qualities which turned a timid hare to chase a ferocious dog.
•  Impressed by this and the fact that it would be better to make a capital in the centre of state(as patan was in north of Gujarat and it would be easier to rule from AHMEDABAD) the sultan, who had been looking for a place to build his new capital, decided to found the capital here and called it AHMEDABAD.
• Foundation was laid by four holy persons(named as ahmed) who had never missed any of their 5 daily prayer who are King Ahmedshah ,Saint sheikh Ahmed Khatu Ganjbaksh ,Kaji Ahmed and Malik Ahmed
• Foundation stone was laid on 28th feb 1410 but according to
•Mirate sikandari 1411-
•Gazatier AHMEDABAD 4th march 1411
•Mirate ahmedi 27th feb 1411
•Dr Tirmiz 4th march 1413
• During sultanate rule AHMEDABAD became the capital of Gujarat and made a grand progress in all the aspect like population, Trade and construction of grand scale were taken upon during this era.
        o Ahmedshah ni masjid and Jumma masjid was constructed during the Ahmedshah era.
• First king Ahmedshah was a generous and good human being and was popular among masses.(although under influence of some close aide he gave poision to his grand father and became king at very young age)and regretted this all his life .
• King Ahmedshah died in 1442 after ruling for 32 years and Mahamadshah became the king who won the Edar and married to the daughter of Edar’s king.
• Kutubuddin becam the king after his father King Muhammad.
• Then his brother Muhhamad became the king who is known as Muhhamad Begada as he won to battle one Junagadh and Pavagadh so he got 2 gadh and is called as King Muhhamad Begda.
• King Muhhamad Begda build the forte and 2 gates around the city, he died in 1511.
• Muzzafarshah became the king at the age of 21 and proved to be a good ruler and was vey popular among public. He was very holy man and died at the age of 36 after ruling for 15 years.
• Than king Sikiandarshah became the king but was killed within 2 months by on of the security Guard and than his brother Bahadurshah became the king and was very generous king and used to give gold coin to every poor man he met but Firangis used to creat lot of troubles for him. They called him on ship and traped him and got him killed
