• During 1720 king of Jodhpur was very strong and his aide Abhesingh bhandari took the administration of AHMEDABAD.

• 2nd april 1753 AHMEDABAD came under Maratha rule and Peshwa and Gaykwad used to share half half area of AHMEDABAD.The area around present Gayakwad ni haveli was controlled by Gayakwad and rest by the Peshwa.that means gayakwad had control over 1 gate and Peshwa had control over 11 gates.tax was distributed among them equally(50% each)administration of AHMEDABAD became a business for them.

• King Sayaji Rao Gayakwad also stayed in ahemdabad during those days. |

• Onec peshwa appointed an administrator (subo)karsan bhimrao Shelukar in AHMEDABAD and he was very flamboyant and attacked the Gayakwad ni haveli and got hold of it, But when Gayakwad knew that they informed Peshwa’s in puna.Later they attacked on AHMEDABAD but the administrator Shelukar in spit of having big army was busy with Dancers and drinks and later sent to Prison with silver handcuffs. (that’s why we say “Haveli leta Gujarat khoyu”)

• In 1780 English General Godard attacked AHMEDABAD .Fears battle happen and army of AHMEDABAD lost its 1000 men.Then General left AHMEDABAD after giving the administration to Fateh Sinh Gayakwad. |

• The contract between Gayakwad and Peshwa’s was expiring in 1814,Gayakwad’s wanted to extend the contract but Peshwa’s did not agreed.

• Britishers intervened and asked peshwa’s to continue the current status but Peshwa’s not ready to agree and then English army attacked on Peshwa’s and got hold of half AHMEDABAD.

• Gayakwad kept the haveli with them and exchanged the hold of AHMEDABAD and got hold of Dabhoyi.

• 30-11-1817 Britishers got full hold of AHMEDABAD from Gayakwad’s. and on 6th june 1818 Union jack was unflagged from Bhadra forte
|
|
|
|
• Marathas proved to be a bad ruler and population of city decreased drastically during this period.
